Reflexology is a safe and effective alternative treatment that has been practiced since ancient times. Hieroglyphics show how reflexology was practised in Ancient Egypt. Other countries such as India, China and Japan are also known to have practiced this therapy for thousands of years.

Reflexologists believe that the organs and systems of the body are mapped out on the feet or hands.

By pressing and massaging specific points or “reflexes”, parts of the body are stimulated and energy lines are unblocked to create balance in the body’s systems. Energy or “Qi” within the body needs to move freely in order for the body to function normally. Pressing on reflexes and allowing “Qi” to flow can also release your body’s natural endorphins or painkillers.

Did you know that it is estimated that 75-80% of modern day ailments are caused by chronic stress?

Reflexology is so relaxing that regular sessions can help to relieve common symptoms associated with stress such as low mood, insomnia, muscle pain and headaches.

What Conditions Can Reflexology Help?

Reflexology can be used simply to relax the body and mind. However it is also effective in relieving the symptoms of many acute and chronic conditions such as:

  • Insomnia

  • PMS, preconception and difficulties conceiving, pregnancy and labour, symptoms of perimenopause and menopause

  • Hormonal imbalances (e.g. hypothyroidism)

  • Chronic conditions (e.g. fibromyalgia, arthritis, diverticulitis and ulcerative colitis)

  • Depression and anxiety, stress and stress-related conditions (e.g. migraine and muscle tension)

  • Constipation

  • Circulatory conditions (e.g. Raynaud's)

As a registered reflexologist I will never allege to cure or diagnose a condition but will instead aim to work alongside and complement any traditional medicine or care you may be receiving.

Although reflexology can be safely given alongside most medical treatments it is always recommended that you check with your doctor whether reflexology is suitable for your particular condition.
